What is Mountain Boarding?

Mountain boarding is the latest extreme sport to hit the UK. It is a 4 wheeled board, which you stear with your toes and your heals, akin to a snowboard.


Differnet Riding Styles

  • Freestyle

    • Freestyle, or Falling in style is the name given to the sport of jumping on a mountain board. This area is constantly growing with riders pushing each other, and getting better all the time. With double backflips and 1080's already being landed.


    To perform such tricks the boards have to be very light and customisable.

  • Boarder x-

    • Is what makes mountain boarding the  amazing sport it is today. It is a quick and exhilirating type of boarding, where many boarders push themselves to their limits and extremes. Boarder -x is usually incredible race tracks, including massive berms.(steep raked corners), and step ups and step downs, also rollers are usually dotted around the tracks, to give chance for extra speed.  The racing style of boarder-x  is fast paced and often 4 man racing.  Every national round has a boarder-x choice for racing at the competition. It is one of the most dangerous, advanced and difficult disciplines of  ATB but also one of the most loved, especially by the older of the SOBA members, who can't fly in the freestyle as they used to and don't bounce as well either.

  • Freeriding

    • Freeriding, it's riding, it's free. Freeriding is just finding a big hill, or a nice steep slope in a forest. Then chucking you and your board down it. Great freeriding spots are dotted around Sussex, a well known area is the tank trails. which is situated just outside Brighton. (see the location page for details.) The only downside to the freeriding scene, is the walking factor. When freeriding there's no truck, no lifts to the top of the hill, its all pure leg work, but then you can fly down the slope... So its your choice whether it's worth it.

  • Kiteboarding
  • Social Riding

    • Social riding-Social riding is just general chill-out riding usually with friends, and could be any of the above disciplines. SOBA arranges a lot of meet up and social rides throughout the year. We just muck around having a laugh, maybe a few beers. It's a time to relax, chill out and ride to you heart's content.


Differnt Boards

  • Different boards- different boards are used for different disciplines.
    • The main makes of board are:
      • MBS, Scrub, No-Sno, and Trampa.
  • Other board makes include: Blue earth, keho and exit.

    An up-and-coming make of board to be released this year is the Howla. Make sure you keep an eye out for this strong as steel, but as light as a feather boards, as they promise to be a completely heavenly ride, bringing a new level to the ATB riders.
